How to check if EPOS device is connected and set as a default communication device in your operating system and soft phone

Follow these steps to check the settings:

Windows 10

1) Access Sound Settings:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar (usually located at the bottom right corner of the screen).
  • Select "Open Sound settings" from the context menu.

2) Navigate to Sound Control Panel:

  • In the Sound settings window, click on the "Sound Control Panel" link located under the "Related settings" section. This will open the Sound control panel window.

3) Choose Playback Devices:

  • In the Sound control panel, go to the "Playback" tab. This tab displays a list of audio playback devices currently connected to your computer.

4) Identify the Device:

  • Locate the EPOS device.

5) Set as Default Communication Device

  • Right-click on the EPOS device you want to set as the default communication device.
  • From the context menu, select "Set as Default Communication Device." This action will designate the selected device as the default communication device for applications such as MS Teams, Zoom, etc.

Windows 11

1) Access Sound Settings:

  • Click on the Start button in the taskbar or press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  • Type "Sound settings" in the search bar and select "Sound settings" from the search results. Alternatively, you can right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and choose "Sound settings" from the context menu.

2) Navigate to Sound Control Panel:

  • In the Sound settings window, scroll down to the "Related settings" section.
  • Click on the "Sound Control Panel" link. This will open the Sound control panel window.

3) Choose Playback Devices:

  • In the Sound control panel, go to the "Playback" tab. This tab displays a list of audio playback devices currently connected to your computer.

4) Identify the device:

  • Locate the EPOS device you want to set as the default communication device in the list. The devices are typically labeled with their names (e.g., speakers, headphones, etc.).

5) Set as Default Communication Device:

  • Right-click on the EPOS device you want to set as the default communication device.
  • From the context menu, select "Set as Default Communication Device." This action will designate the selected device as the default communication device for applications such as MS Teams, Zoom, etc.

6) Confirm the Change:

  • Once you've set the EPOS device as the default communication device, you can verify the change by looking for a green check-mark icon next to the device's name. This icon indicates that the device is now the default communication device.

MAC OS

1) Access System Preferences:

  • Click on the Apple menu icon located at the top left corner of the screen.
  • From the drop-down menu, select "System Preferences."

2) Open Sound Preferences:

  • In the System Preferences window, locate and click on the "Sound" icon. This will open the Sound preferences pane.

3) Navigate to Output Tab:

  • In the Sound preferences pane, navigate to the "Output" tab. This tab displays a list of audio output devices currently available on your Mac.

4) Identify the Device:

  • Locate the EPOS device you want to set as the default communication device in the list. The devices are typically labeled with their names (e.g., Built-in Output, External Speakers, etc.).

5) Set as Default Device:

  • Click on the EPOS device you want to set as the default communication device to select it.

6) Configure Output Settings (Optional):

  • If needed, you can further configure the output settings for the selected device, such as adjusting the output volume or configuring audio balance, by using the sliders and check-boxes available in this tab.

7) Navigate to Input Tab:

  • If the EPOS device you want to use for communication also serves as an input device (e.g., microphone), navigate to the "Input" tab in the Sound preferences pane.

8) Identify and Set Default Input Device:

  • Similar to the Output tab, locate the EPOS device you want to set as the default communication input device in the list.
  • Click on the EPOS device to select it and set it as the default input device for communication.

Note: If your operating system does not recognize the EPOS device, please try plugging it into another free USB port on your computer and go through the steps described above.

How to check if EPOS Device is set as a default device in your softphone.

1) Open Your softphone application

  • Launch the softphone application on your computer. This could be any VoIP application like MS Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, etc.

2) Navigate to Settings

  • Look for the Settings or Preferences menu. This is often found by clicking on your profile picture, name, or a gear icon, typically located at the top right or left corner of the application.

3) Locate the Audio Settings

  • In the settings menu, find the section labeled Audio or Sound. This might also be under a broader category like Devices or Hardware.

4) Check Default Audio Device

  • Within the audio settings, look for options labeled Microphone and Speaker or Output Device and Input Device.
  • There should be a drop-down menu or list showing all available audio devices connected to your computer.

5) Verify or Set the Default Device

  • Check which devices are currently selected as the Microphone and Speaker.
  • If the desired audio device is not selected, click on the drop-down menu and select the correct EPOS device from the list.
  • Save or apply the settings, if necessary. Some applications automatically apply the changes, while others might require you to click on a Save or Apply button.

6) Test the EPOS Device

  • Most softphone applications have a way to test your audio settings. Look for a Test button next to the microphone and speaker settings.
  • Click Test to ensure the selected EPOS devices are working correctly. You might need to speak into the microphone and listen for playback through the speaker.
