DECT products and variants explained
DECT, or digitally enhanced cordless telecommunications, is a wireless technology used in three of our product series: the DW series, the SD series, and the D 10 series.
DECT products typically require a base station which is physically connected to your chosen end-device, whether this is a deskphone, a computer or a mobile phone. The wireless connection exists between the base station and the headset, and offers the greatest range within our portfolio - up to 55 meters (180 feet) in your typical office environment.
The DW series vs. the SD series
Due to different restrictions in the United States of America with regard to available bandwidth, there are two main versions of our standard DECT products. The DW series is available in Europe, Australia and most other jurisdictions, while the SD series is designed to be compliant for the North American market.
These headsets have the same functionality and will offer you the same great quality.
Dual connectivity with DECT products
Most variants of the DW series, and all variants of the SD series, feature dual connectivity - the ability to have the base station connected simultaneously to two different end-devices. Typically, they connect via USB to a computer, and via a variety of different cables to deskphones, dependent on the deskphone in question.
Please note that some headsets from the DW series do not support dual connectivity. These are recognizable from the following designations in their name: "PHONE" and "USB".
USB indicates that the device can only be connected via USB, and does not feature any ports for connection via telephony cables.
PHONE indicates that the device can only be connected via telephony cables. While a USB port is present, it can only be used to update the device's firmware.
The D 10 series
The D 10 series consists of three variants, all of which are single connectivity devices. They are marked as either USB or PHONE.
